Vtg Old School 1979 American Redline MX-11 Race BMX, Maximum Overdrive AwsomenessPart of a collection I'm selling to fund my mopar money pit. I have other listings for nice bikes, check them out.
This bike is a 1979 American redline MX-11 original as found with the exception of the maximum overdrive tribute :). If i could have pulled this off in the 80's and raced it I would have. Maximum overdrive was the Best 80's cheesy horror flick hands down.
I didnt alter anything permanently and the bike and is still as I found it. I cleaned it up a tad but nothing to an extent of a full pro detail like i usually would do because we wanted the tough old look of a original road worn warrior to go with its new identity. It came out fabulous! My sons loved it and the wife despises it which makes it even better yet,,,and has hung proudly in the garage ever since. Im only selling because of a mopar classic car project never ending money pit. Bmx is mere childs play in cost compared to restoring a classic car I've very painfully learned the hard way.
The bike has no major issues as far as breaks, re-welds, just typical nicks/scratches and patina here and there. Decals all original and aged. Has the early 1st generation pinched end Tange TX 1200 forks. All the parts are just as I found it with the exception of a black fluted seat post i put on. The rims are lesters sprayed black, has a reflector tab chipped off on rear rim. Very early Red anodized pro neck stem, top puck has a little cracking started by one bolt (pictured). Handle bars are powerlite powerbends. Tires are both wide square slicks for that extra special Semi truck goodness. Lots of other great parts that were all original to the bike as well.
This bike is extreme and not for the faint of heart. BMX collecting has gotten so focused on factory catalog and slightest details the fun of BMX sorta got lost in the shuffle so this bike was for the pure enjoyment and to break the monotony of the current trends. Its not catalog correct by anymeans and has shocked and disturbed many of freinds, family and visitors to my garage over the years which is why its probably my favorite. Ive literally seen a few of my kids friends stare at it up on the wall for 5 minutes not saying a word in confusion and awe... Mission accomplished, lol. That all said, this is an iconic bike and a piece of legendary bmx history. The red line MX- 11 was a staple in high end race bikes.
