This Mac is in excellent functional condition
with two exceptions
:
1. The chassis has a number of superficial scratches and two dents, which are shown in detail in the listing pictures. Beside that, the chassis is quite straight.
2. Battery life is inexplicably poor; leaving the laptop unattended in "sleep" mode will drain the battery in two days, which is atypical for a MacBook, especially an M1-based machine. The battery has been replaced with a brand new aftermarket pack from Injured Gadgets, which now has four cycles from testing.
All standby battery drain issues can be resolved either by powering the laptop off between uses or by running `sudo pmset -g hibernatemode 25`, which forces RAM to be de-powered for a deep hibernate (akin to a shutdown).
Therefore, it is likely that the standby battery drain problem has something to do with the motherboard rather than the battery.
Besides that, the laptop is in excellent condition. The screen is in almost perfect shape with no delamination or scratches that I could find. The Touch Bar and Touch ID sensor function properly with no problems or intermittence. The keyboard works wonderfully, as do the trackpad and speakers. Both USB Type-C ports and the headphone jack also function as expected. If it were not for the battery drain problem, I would be using this as my personal laptop with no reservations whatsoever.
This is a custom 16GB build-to-order configuration of the M1, which is great for developers or researchers who need the extra RAM. The laptop will ship with a fresh install of macOS Monterey 12.6.1 and does not have Activation Lock enabled.
The serial number has been obscured in the listing pictures but can be provided upon request if you need it for some reason.
I am also including the original 61W Apple USB Type-C charger and a 10' aftermarket AINOPE USB Type-C cable that supports 100W Power Delivery.
I recommend that you only purchase this laptop if you have experience with board-level repair of Apple hardware or if you are fine with the reduced battery life this machine will exhibit.
