    20 Portuguese Escudos banknote (Admiral Gago Coutinho)
    The Banco de Portugal issued Portuguese Escudo banknotes in 9 different denominations, including this 20 Portuguese Escudos banknote (Admiral Gago Coutinho). They are part of the demonetized Portuguese Escudo banknotes series. The Banco de Portugal started issuing these 20 Portuguese Escudo banknotes in 1978. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1987.
    On the 20 Portuguese escudos banknote is a portrait of Admiral Gago Coutinho, who completed the first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic in 1922. On the back side of this green-colored Vinte Escudos Ouro bill is Coutinho’s seaplane.
    One bill has tape in the middle and one has small part missing from the left corner.
