Description:
A beautiful very fine or better banknote from Mozambique on the eastern coast of Africa. This is the 16 May 1972, One Thousand Escudos, issued during the Portuguese administration. The banknote has a black-blue design on multicolor under-print (containing green, brown or purplish brown, and orange) on the front. The design depicts the image of King Alfonso V facing left to the right of the front. The front also has the name of Banco Nacional Ultramarino (National Overseas Bank) of Lisbon Portugal in the top margin. The banknote displays the date and the denomination on the front and only the denomination on the back. The back of the note has the image of a woman leaning on a wall watching sailing ships in the background all in green coloring. The back also has the seal of the bank showing a sail ship in the center of a circle with the bank's name spelled out along the circumference. The note has two signatures on the front. This particular note has the serial number 483686 and has no prefix, which is displayed on the front twice in black, but is not displayed on the back. The paper of the note retains quite a bit of its original stiffness and crispiness and the note is just in very fine condition. Please carefully review the scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date:
16 May 1972.
Printer:
Unknown.
Size:
The banknote measures ~6 7/8" by ~3 3/4".
Pick Number:
P112a.
Condition:
For international buyers, please note that on January 20, 2018 the new US postal rates for overseas shipping went into effect for first class shipments, which we are unable to change. Additional charges will be incurred depending on the value of the item. Please check the cost of shipping before bidding. I would grade this banknote as a good very fine or better with all the details being very well preserved. The note has several light vertical folds or waves with one line that shows soiling along it near the left edge and going through the white oval. Other than that the note is relatively clean and has no pinholes, no graffiti, no objectionable stains, no tears, and no splits. The edges show some roughness with some minor nicks here and there. The corners are fairly squared and have minor rounding if any. The note retains quite a bit of its original stiffness, crispiness and sheen. A beautiful banknote in very fine condition to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
