pewter with a biscuit porcelain inlay featuring a sculptural figure of a Landsknecht or "soldier for hire" from the Renaissanse times sitting on the ground and relaxing with a large beer stein. His sword is laying next to him, and his bugle horn is hanging on his back.
This type of biscuit porcelain material is called "Parian" - it was invented in 1840s in England and quickly became very popular in Germany and also in the United States. Parian ware was utilised mainly for busts and figurines, and occasionally for dishes and small vases. The main advantage of Parian ware was that it could be molded as regular porcelain but then carved like marble to create very precise detaling. It was still too expensive for mass production so it became quite rare after 1870s.

lated wear, but no chips, lines or repairs. The figurine on top has no flaws.
