    The Republic of Biafra is a self-proclaimed partially recognized state in the southeastern part of Nigeria,
    which existed from May 30, 1967 (the date of independence) until January 15, 1970.
    The state was not recognized by the United Nations, but it was recognized by Gabon, Haiti, Côte d'Ivoire, Tanzania and Zambia.
    The state was named after the Gulf of Biafra, on the banks of which it was located.
